Crystal's Story

The most important thing I have learned at BLCI is that I am not crazy for coming to school early or taking an extra class!
People at school did not always grasp why I go that extra mile, but the staff at BLCI understand why I am passionate about my beliefs and dreams.
What’s more, they always believed that my goals were attainable, and that everything was worth trying.
Being Realistic
I remember speaking to my high school counselor about where I wanted to attend college.

She told me that I was not being realistic.
This was crushing for me to hear. I was glad that when I told BLCI staff members where I wanted to go to college, they encouraged me and helped me work hard to try to achieve my dreams.
I feel empowered at BLCI, and that is something I have not always been encouraged to feel.
While it seems so simple, I could not always find that at my school, so it means a lot to me to find it at BLCI.
A Second Home
BLCI is unique because the staff is never so caught up in something that they lose focus of their students. They know us on a first name basis – all are friendly and all are genuine.
I would not only encourage students to apply for BLCI – I hand kids applications! Everyone can benefit from what this program has to offer.
BLCI is not just a place to learn, but a second home where you are always welcomed, a place to find validation, support, mentors, and friends.
