Dinorah's Story
My parents told me at a young age that education is the only way to get ahead, and that better opportunities in life are achieved through education.

Ever since learning this, I have worked hard to get the best possible grades.
Being a person who does not settle for anything less than the best, I decided that graduating from high school was not enough.
Not Easily Satisfied

Earning a high school diploma (though a great achievement, and one of my dreams) does not open doors, and I am not satisfied with mediocrity.
I will pursue a post-secondary education, and even go on to graduate school in the hopes of attaining an MBA.
At BLCI, I received tutoring and college planning assistance. Through BLCI, I was able to visit different colleges and universities.
I also participated in different volunteer activities, like the neighborhood clean-up or trips to the food bank.
More importantly, BLCI helped me keep on the path I had set for myself.
New Opportunities
While my parents never denied my brothers and I anything we needed, there was rarely any extra money in our home.

BLCI gave me the opportunity of a lifetime by helping me get into La Jolla Country Day, a college preparatory school.
At Country Day, I received an education of the best caliber, with one-on-one attention and help from teachers and more hands-on learning.
I have also been able to travel and see things I would not have dreamed of if I had gone to public school.
Fulfilling my Dream

I hope I will be an inspiration for the rest of my family, and for my community.
I hope it will send the message that, regardless of your circumstances, going to college is possible.
