In 1979, a small group of business men met for lunch at a local restaurant. The conversation was the usual - business, sports, politics. Then someone mentioned the family of a young boy with leukemia who had traveled the country looking for a cure. Desperate, willing to try anything, they were in San Diego on their way to Mexico where they had heard a treatment existed. But their money was almost gone. They couldn't afford the treatment or even living expenses. Everything else forgotten, the men decided to help this family. Tragically, the treatment failed (the boy died), but that was the beginning of the Nice Guys.
Family is the main focus of the Nice Guys. "The majority of the money we raise goes to help families who have somehow 'fallen through the cracks'." said Nice Guys Treasurer Lynn Cihac. A medical bill, a car repair, clothes needed after a house fire, a wheelchair for a young man injured while being a Good Samaritan - this are the type of assistance offered by the Nice Guys. "Our goal is always to get people back on their feet and to be, once again, self sufficient. We live by the credo 'Offering a hand up, not a handout'."
BLCI would like to thank Dan Spinnazola and all the Nice Guys for their continued support!
