Rodo's Story
I got involved with BLCI after being in trouble with the law in 1999.

I was arrested in 7th grade, I was getting F's, and getting into a lot of trouble.
I was so fed up with my life that I wanted to drop out of school.
I completed my community service at BLCI, where I cleaned shelves, moved old, dusty, metal bookcases, swept and mopped the floors, and helped paint the walls and organize books into separate genres.
What I Learned

I think the first thing I learned at BLCI was to learn from my mistakes.
My parents understood why doing well in school is important, so they let me come to BLCI to study.
With the help of tutors and my coordinator, my grades improved a full letter grade.
I also learned that people cared about me. My mentors helped me develop a plan for college.

Now, when I have free time, I help out as best I can, because I like to help others.
I don't know what it would be like without BLCI here.
I believe that not having BLCI is like not having my brain and heart.
I thank the BLCI crew for being here for us and helping us go to college.
