College Knowledge

“Gear Up for College” Retreat
Incoming BLCI freshmen spend a weekend at Calicinto Ranch, learning about the expectations of a high school college-prep curriculum.  Students take part in team building, leadership, and reflection activities to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Campus Exploration
Students and families take campus tours and participate in university events with volunteer college undergrads.

  • UNDERCLASSMEN take at least four trips to local colleges each year, usually on the weekends and during summer and school vacation.
  • JUNIORS visit a group of California universities during their spring break. Through informational sessions, tours of residential halls and academic facilities, and meals with BLCI alumni and university contacts, students gain a thorough understanding of college life.
  • SENIORS take individual or small group trips with our staff to make final decisions about college.

SAT Prep
Through our partnership with the Princeton Review, juniors take an intensive SAT prep course to strengthen academic skills, learn test-taking strategies, and build up their confidence. BLCI also provides assistance with SAT II and ACT registration.

Community Service
BLCI students discover new gifts, work together to give back to their community, and strengthen their high school resume for college applications.

Career Planning
Through partnerships with local businesses, we help students find quality internships, job shadowing opportunities, and career exploration programs.

College Selection
BLCI works with students and their families to research and apply to colleges during junior and senior year. We guide each family through the stages of application, acceptance, and enrollment.

Financial Aid Assistance
BLCI students work for the education they deserve, regardless of the price tag. We help each senior and their family complete the FAFSA and financial aid forms, and meet with families to review financial aid awards and packages.

Scholarships
We work closely with students to ensure that they take full advantage of available scholarship and award opportunities.
